ANGAU Special Care Nursery configured to continue the newborn record from birth

Moana team with the Special Care Nursery team at ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital

At ANGAU Memorial Provincial Hospital, the Special Care Nursery is mapped and configured in Moana so that a newborn admitted to the nursery arrives with a record already started. Go live at ANGAU is expected in the coming weeks.

The Special Care Nursery cares for newborns who need additional clinical support, including babies born preterm, at low birth weight or with complications. Information already recorded at birth should not have to be recorded again on admission, when the care team’s time is needed for the baby.

Continuity from the Labour Ward

As configured in Moana, birth weight, APGAR scores, Vitamin K and Hepatitis B are carried over from the Labour Ward, together with the mother’s details. The nursery team then records neonatal observations throughout the baby’s stay. Critical changes are flagged to staff, and every transfer and discharge is added to the same record.

The maternal and newborn pathway

With the Special Care Nursery configured, the maternal and newborn pathway at ANGAU is set up to run from labour and delivery through special care to the Children’s Outpatient Department.
