Platform · Laboratory information system
A laboratory information system that controls every sample, every run and every release.
MOANA LIS manages the complete laboratory workflow, from request and collection through analysis, quality control, validation and release. It integrates with analysers and instruments, so results are captured without transcription.
In many settings results still travel on paper, specimens are labelled by hand and quality control lives in a separate notebook.
Standalone MOANA LIS runs as part of the Moana platform, or on its own by an independent laboratory, with no EHR required. Solutions for laboratories
For private laboratories, hospital laboratories, diagnostic centres and national reference laboratories.
What it does
Barcoded collection and tracking, and more.
One request queue
Requests from doctors in the EHR, from other facilities and from outside clients arrive in the same queue, with priority and clinical notes attached.
Collection and barcodes
Container types, barcodes and phlebotomist workload are tracked at collection, and rejected samples are recorded with the reason.
Quality control
QC runs for each analyser and lot are evaluated against Westgard rules, with Levey Jennings charts, before patient results are released.
Analysers and instruments
Moana connects to lab analysers and instruments, so results flow in without being typed a second time.
Validation and critical values
Results are entered, validated and approved by separate people. Critical values notify the ordering doctor straight away.
Blood bank
Donors, units by group and component, crossmatching and transfusion requests, linked to the patient receiving the blood.
Reagents and inventory
Reagent stock, lot numbers and expiry tracked against the tests that use them.
More than one laboratory
Several laboratories and departments in one system, with referrals and external orders between them.
Feeds surveillance
Results feed national disease surveillance automatically, with nobody retyping them.

Overview
MOANA LIS
Every sample tracked from request to released result.
Laboratory medicine underpins most clinical decisions, yet in many settings results still travel on paper, specimens are labelled by hand and quality control lives in a separate notebook. MOANA LIS brings the laboratory into the digital record with full traceability, from the moment a test is requested to the moment a verified result reaches the clinician who asked for it.
Every specimen is barcoded at collection and tracked through each department. Results arrive from connected analysers over ASTM and HL7, or are entered by hand where an instrument is not connected.
Quality control runs are evaluated against Westgard rules with Levey Jennings charts before any patient result is released, and entry, validation and approval are performed by separate people. Critical values are flagged against limits the laboratory defines and routed to the ordering clinician immediately.
MOANA LIS supports multiple laboratories and departments in one system, referrals and external orders between them, reagent inventory with lot and expiry tracking, laboratory billing and a blood bank console for donors, units, crossmatch and transfusion.
Results feed national disease surveillance automatically, so laboratory confirmed cases reach public health teams without being retyped.
In the product
The interface, as your teams will use it.
Every screen is the real Moana interface, shown with demonstration data.
Incoming requests. New test requests arrive with their priority, ready to approve or reject.
How it works
From request to released result.
- RequestOrders arrive from clinicians in the EHR, from referring facilities and from outside clients, with priority and clinical notes attached.
- CollectionSpecimens are collected against the order, labelled with a barcode and tracked by container type, with rejections recorded with a reason.
- AnalysisAnalysers send results directly into MOANA LIS. Manual results are entered against the same test catalogue and reference ranges.
- Quality and validationWestgard rules are applied to every QC run, and results are validated and approved by separate, authorised staff.
- Release and notificationVerified results return to the patient record, critical values notify the ordering clinician, and reports are available to download.
Outcomes
What changes for your organisation.
Fewer transcription errors
Results flow from instrument to record without being typed a second time.
Demonstrable quality
QC history, Levey Jennings charts and validation steps are recorded for accreditation and audit.
Faster turnaround
Turnaround is measured at every stage, so bottlenecks are visible and addressed.
Public health intelligence
Laboratory confirmed results contribute to surveillance from the moment they are released.

Who uses it
One system for everyone who touches a sample.
- Ordering doctorsRequest tests from the EHR and receive verified results, with critical values notified straight away.
- PhlebotomistsCollect against the order, with barcodes, container types and workload tracked.
- Laboratory staffRun QC, capture results from analysers or enter them against the test catalogue.
- Validators and approversValidate and approve results as separate, authorised staff before release.
- Blood bank staffManage donors, units, crossmatching and transfusion requests.
- Public health teamsReceive laboratory confirmed cases through national surveillance, without retyping.
Can MOANA LIS be used by an independent laboratory?
Yes. MOANA LIS runs as a standalone laboratory information system, with no EHR required, and can connect to the clinics and hospitals a laboratory serves.
Does MOANA LIS integrate with laboratory analysers?
Yes. MOANA LIS integrates with laboratory analysers and instruments using ASTM and HL7, so results are captured directly from the instrument.
How does MOANA LIS manage quality control?
QC runs are evaluated against Westgard rules with Levey Jennings charts for each analyser and lot, before patient results are released.
Does MOANA LIS include a blood bank?
Yes. The blood bank console manages donors, units by group and component, crossmatching and transfusion requests linked to the receiving patient.
