Platform · Integrations
Moana connects to the instruments and systems you already run.
Laboratory analysers, imaging modalities, an existing PACS, hospital and partner systems, national reporting platforms and approved applications connect to one Moana record through international standards. Every integration is specified with your team, tested with your own equipment and monitored after go live.
No hospital replaces everything at once. A new platform has to work alongside the analysers, imaging equipment and systems already in service, from the first day.
For hospital ICT teams, laboratory and radiology managers, and ministries of health.
What Moana connects to
Six kinds of connection, one patient record.
Each connection uses an international standard rather than a proprietary link, so the hospital is never tied to one vendor and every exchange can be traced.
Laboratory analysers and instruments
MOANA LIS sends orders electronically to the analyser and receives results back for verification before release.
- ASTM and HL7 v2 analyser interfaces
- Barcoded sample labels printed at collection
- Quality control results evaluated against Westgard rules
- No result reaches the record until a scientist verifies it
Imaging modalities
Requests from the clinician’s order appear on the radiology worklist, and studies return to the patient record as DICOM.
- DICOM image storage and retrieval
- Worklists by modality and priority
- Browser based viewer for clinicians and radiologists
- Report returned to the requesting clinician
An existing hospital PACS
Moana integrates with the PACS a hospital already runs, so images stay where they are while requests and reports flow through Moana.
- No migration of the image archive to begin
- Orders and reports linked to the same patient record
- MOANA PACS available where a hospital has none
Hospital and partner systems
Patients, orders, results and referrals are exchanged with the systems around the hospital.
- HL7 v2 messages translated to and from FHIR R4 by the Moana gateway
- FHIR R4 API for partner hospitals and external diagnostic providers
- Phased transition alongside an existing hospital system
- Supply data reconciled with the finance system
National reporting and registries
National systems are fed from routine care, without separate data entry at the facility.
- Aggregate indicators reported to DHIS2
- FHIR bulk export for national data warehouses and research
- Notifiable conditions coded at the point of care
Approved applications
Approved third party applications launch inside Moana with the patient in context.
- SMART on FHIR app launch
- Access governed by role and recorded in the audit log
- The organisation decides which applications are approved
How an integration is delivered
Specified with your team. Tested with your equipment.
Integrations are delivered as part of implementation, by the Moana team working with the hospital ICT team and, where needed, the instrument vendor. Nothing is connected to live patient care until the department that relies on it has tested it.
Standards
The standard behind each connection.
| Standard | Used for |
|---|---|
| ASTM | Orders and results between MOANA LIS and laboratory analysers |
| HL7 v2 | Orders, results and patient information with analysers and existing hospital systems |
| FHIR R4 | Record exchange and APIs for partner hospitals, providers and national platforms |
| SMART on FHIR | Launching approved applications inside Moana with the patient in context |
| FHIR bulk data | Exporting populations for national data warehouses, analytics and research |
| DICOM | Storing, retrieving and viewing medical images, and integrating with an existing PACS |
| LOINC and UCUM | Laboratory tests and units, so a result means the same thing everywhere |
| ICD 10, ICD 11 and SNOMED CT | Diagnoses and clinical findings coded at the point of care |
| DHIS2 | Aggregate national indicators reported from routine data |
Governance
Integrations you can audit.
Every message logged
Each message in and out is recorded, so integrators can trace exactly what was sent, received and when.
Access by role
Connected systems and applications see only what their role allows, and every access is audited.
Verified before release
Results from instruments are verified by laboratory staff before they reach the clinician.
Your data stays yours
Data exchanged through integrations remains owned by the organisation that collects it.
Can Moana connect to our laboratory analysers?
Yes. MOANA LIS integrates with analysers and instruments that support standard ASTM or HL7 interfaces. Orders are sent to the analyser and results return to the LIS, where a scientist verifies them before release. Each instrument is confirmed during scoping.
Do we need to replace our existing PACS?
No. Moana can integrate with the PACS a hospital already runs. Images stay in the existing archive, while requests, worklists and reports flow through Moana. MOANA PACS is available where a hospital has no PACS.
Can Moana work alongside our current hospital system?
Yes. Through HL7 v2 and FHIR R4, Moana exchanges patient, order and result information with existing systems, either during a phased transition or as a permanent connection with partner systems.
Which analyser and imaging brands are supported?
Moana integrates through open standards rather than brand specific connectors, so what matters for each instrument is whether it supports ASTM, HL7 or DICOM. This is confirmed for every instrument during scoping, before implementation begins.
Who builds and supports the integrations?
The Moana team, working with the hospital ICT team and, where needed, the instrument vendor. Integrations are tested with the hospital’s own equipment before live use and monitored after go live.
Can Moana report to our national health information system?
Yes. Aggregate indicators are reported to DHIS2 from routine data, and FHIR bulk export supports national data warehouses and research.
Send us your list of instruments and systems.
We will map each one to the standard it uses and show your team how it connects to Moana.
