Moana Digital Health introduces MOANA Surveillance for ministries of health
Moana Digital Health has introduced MOANA Surveillance, a national surveillance system for ministries of health built on the Moana platform. It gives a ministry a single national view of notifiable disease, laboratory and pharmacy data, drawn from the clinical records that facilities already maintain in Moana.
Routine surveillance commonly depends on facility staff completing a separate notification after the clinical encounter. In MOANA Surveillance, a notifiable condition is classified into its surveillance syndrome at the moment the clinician codes the diagnosis, and no second notification form is required.
Capability
Laboratory volumes, critical results and turnaround times are reported from live laboratory data, and stock levels and expiry from pharmacy records. Disease clusters are mapped by district. A reporting compliance view shows programme managers which facilities are up to date with their reporting obligations.
Built on the clinical record
MOANA Surveillance is one of three national systems on the Moana platform, alongside the Moana Medical Supply System and MOANA Clinical Research. Because it reads from the record used in care, surveillance figures reflect clinical activity as it is documented.
The platform is designed for unreliable connectivity. Work is saved on the device and synchronised when the connection returns, so a facility’s figures arrive late rather than not at all.
Configuration
Each deployment is configured to the country’s own disease programmes, indicators and reporting requirements.
